Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) has been used for over 50 years in managing high blood glucose levels which are highly damaging to most tissues due to the formation of advanced glycating end products (AGE’s). The mechanism of action is likely via improved insulin signaling and reducing insulin resistance. However, ALA is a mixture of both R+ and S forms.
